Friday Finds #61: Mighty Bright and Ballet

1

This past weekend I accompanied for a production of the 2-person show The Last Five Years, by Jason Robert Brown. The Mighty Bright Orchestra Light and Mighty Bright Duet Light both came in super handy to light up both sides of my keyboard fully in the dark theater.

In anticipation of the intense hours of rehearsal of this 179-page score, I had both chiropractor and massage appointments set up for the Monday/Tuesday following! I tend to pull a lot of tension in my left shoulder/neck area, regardless of piano playing. Rosemary’s suggestion for a book on Instant Relief (from your everyday aches & pains) was timed just right. I’m definitely intrigued by this book! Continue reading

Friday Finds #60: Pack ‘n Roll, Peaches, and Politicians

1

Last night I hosted my third (now annual!) Studio 88 outdoor picnic performance. I couldn’t plan and pack everything I need for my student recitals without this sturdy pack-n-roll. They’re made as rolling “toolboxes,” but are perfect for packing extension chords, boxes of awards, and more. What I love most is that it easily folds up flat for storage.

My favorite fruits include pears, strawberries, bananas, raspberries, and peaches. Have you ever wondered What the Difference is Between Freestone and Clingstone Peaches?

I love unique posts for piano teachers that aren’t just about our usual round of resources, printables, marketing, etc. Here’s one from Leila | What We Can Learn from the Parents of Condoleezza Rice, Pianist, and Politician.

Interested in learning more about Van Cliburn? 4D Piano shared a great post full of books, podcasts, and movies to help you learn more. Discover Van Cliburn.

I don’t know people get through with the small little freezers on most refrigerator/freezer units. Us “country” folk always have a deep freeze to keep our bulk meat purchases. We stock up on venison each hunting season, and I like to keep plenty of ground pork, turkey, and bone-in skin-on chicken breast and thighs on hand. If you have to get by with just a small freezer though, here’s a great tip to help make some extra room!

Friday Finds #57: Beats Workout and a Piano Puzzle

1

Canva made a big announcement this week. They’re introducing Canva Print. You can now order print items from your Canva designs. This could be a great tool for creating postcards for student birthdays, posters for recitals, fliers for marketing, and more!

My husband and I haven’t drunk pop (or “soda” depending on where you’re from) in years. Our beverages of choice most of the time are water and unsweet tea. On occasion, I drink a single cup of hot tea and love using this tea stick. Continue reading

Friday Finds #56: A Piano Safari Download

1

If you’re a Piano Safari user, as I was searching the PS Facebook group recently, I came across this cute download for the animal rhythms.

2

A practice challenge idea with a door-size keyboard chart.

A friend of mine had a minor “accident” with a Microplane grater (haven’t we all) to the point she had to go to the emergency room. In all seriousness (and a little humor), I gift-mailed her this Microplane cut-protection glove. I’ve had one for years after learning my own lesson. You only need one to protect those precious piano hands!

Another learn to play piano all-by-myself app is here. Have you heard of Skoove Piano? Not the type of app we as teachers need but it’s always nice to know what’s out there!

My soul had been feeling just a bit tuckered lately so Tsh Okenreider’s post On Decision Fatigue felt comforting and The Minimalist’s Helpful Guide to Becoming Unbusy useful. Now I just have to put it into practice. Along those same lines, if you’re feeling you need a little help in this area, I would highly recommend the book 24/6 A Prescription for a Healthier, Happier Life

Music Moves for Piano has a new website and it looks great! Congratulations to Marilyn Lowe.

Included in our meals this week was Nom Nom Paleo’s delicious Wonton Meatballs, and Winning Deviled Ham Salad. I prefer eating ham salad with hearty crackers rather than in sandwich form. The maple syrup and sriracha make this recipe unique.

A little treat was found in Diary -Free Fudge Pops using these awesome Tovolo Ice Pop Molds. I was considering more of a round mold but I thought that might be harder to eat. Plus, the fact that you can pull them out of the freezer individually made them my winner.

Friday Finds #55: Inspiration

This week is a special round-up of finds. I have been a content junkie for a long time. I’m slowing down, but I couldn’t manage the number of sites I follow without my RSS reader, Feedly.

There are several sites I have been following for years that do similar weekend roundups that inspired me to start my Friday Finds for teachers. Today I share those favorites with you.
