The 7th Organize Your Digital Life RETREAT is in the books!
Every summer, I host a small group of 3-4 teachers at my home in Indiana for a refresh in their digital work lives. Not only do they get uninterrupted time to tackle files, email, and digital clutter, but it’s also a true retreat for the teacher spirit.

Really, It’s a Bed and Breakfast!
As a foodie piano teacher, I love serving food that makes my guests feel truly cared-for. As one teacher put it, “The food alone is worth it!” Another added, “It’s like staying in a bed and breakfast!”

While every retreat holds special memories, this one was especially memorable as it took place during a week of record-breaking rainfall and flooding across Indiana, with some news outlets calling it a 1-in-1,000-year event. Fortunately, our town avoided extreme flooding, but heavy rain just an hour south caused major travel delays for a couple of attendees. Thankfully, everyone made it safely, even if a few hours behind schedule!
Despite the rain, we still got to enjoy some time on the back porch during the first session and lunch each day. Mary, who drove in from Northern Alabama, was especially delighted to escape the Southern heat and humidity. She couldn’t get enough of the cooler Indiana weather – even with all the rain!

A Peek Inside the 2026 Retreat
Our work headquarters was set up right at my kitchen table, complete with a monitor for live demonstrations and plenty of power outlets. LOL

We had some record-breaking numbers to tackle this year, including 2,500+ Facebook pages and 250,000+ emails.

Following each guided session (covering devices, desktop computer management and internet browsers, files, online content, email, and media), attendees had a dedicated 90-minute block to “retreat” and work on their own systems.
I try to build in plenty of downtime too. Highlights include:
- A scenic walk at the state park
- A quick outing to the organic farm behind my house
- Relaxing evenings spent sharing, connecting, and swapping teaching notes
- Dinners at favorite local spots – including a local favorite called “The Pickle” (the perfect packdrop for a group photo snapped by my husband!)

Our Thursday evening conversations revealed Gail’s bucket-list goal of being able to play a particular passage in a piece. Angelin – a Professor of Piano at Cleveland University and a Grammy-winning artist – was eager to help! The next evening, right before recording an episode for The Piano Pantry Podcast, they spent about 15 minutes together in my studio working through the passage.
How cool is that?! (I’m so glad I got my piano tuned before the retreat! LOL) Mary and I enjoyed being spectators on the couch. 🙂

As always, I was thrilled that these wonderful teachers were willing to join me on the podcast to share their experiences.
