Teacher conferences have ruled my Octobers over the past few years. This photo is from this year’s Indiana MTA conference, held a few weeks ago, which usually falls in early October (sometimes late September).
We are one of the smaller state affiliates of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). With around 225 members, and we typically have 55 to 85 registrants for our annual conference.
The week after the conference, I presented to a dozen teachers at a local association meeting in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and the following week, I presented two sessions at the Kentucky MTA Conference in Louisville.
Two years ago, I got proposals accepted at the Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois Conferences, which made for a crazy month! (I won’t be doing that again. LOL)
If your group is still looking for sessions for next semester, I have almost a dozen unique sessions available on technology, teaching, business, and more. I would love to share with your group!

I love podcasts but have always struggled with audiobooks for some reason. My book club selected a book this month, though, that my library didn’t have enough ebooks or hard copies of.
Someone said they heard the audio book version was excellent, so I decided to give it a shot. I’m using a free Spotify trial to listen, and I am absolutely ENAMORED with this book. I’m giving it 6 stars out of 5 so far, and they were right: the audio book is 100% amazing (although it’s 29 hours…) The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett (author of The Help).

Teacher Ben Kapilow (who was featured on episode #5 of the Piano Pantry Podcast) got quite the stir when he wrote a groovy tune to help his university students learn the circle of fifths. (Upworthy)
(This went viral on social media a while back, but I always have a backlist of fun things to share with you!)

While we’re on the Circle of 5ths, here’s a fun video about how someone used geometry to explain so many musical concepts on the Circle of 5ths. (If I remember right, thanks to teacher Mary Farrell for sharing this one with me!)

These leggings organizer hangers have been so useful! I love that they don’t take up much horizontal space in the closet.
The tricky part is keeping the hanger balanced when you remove a pair from either side. LOL
